This is worthy of 17+ title.
-at game start, make a second ulfsark. send them both to make 2 docks on each water source (the key to winning against an eggy/greek is to control the water). also make 2 houses before you cycle fishing ships at both docks
-invoke dwarven mine next to tc
-this is tricky but key: At game start, send the ox +2 dwarves to wood around tc to chop until your 2nd ulfsark comes out. then collect their wood and make them both mine the dwarven gold
-send the given ox to wood source (closest) and make 4 vils
-make 2 more dwarves for gold at dwarven mine (4)
-cycle dwarves at this point and make +3 for wood (7)
-make 1 dwarf for food cows (1) *temple when you can
-make an ox cart for a seperate gold source + 2 dwarves (6)
-make +1 vil for food cows and +1 dwarf for food cows (3)
-make +2 dwarves for wood (9) *hint: when vs Ra, make another ox and seperate wood vils, to prepare for the locusts. you should always do this with gold in heroic
-Advance (Freyja). This is somewhere between 5:25-50 no later!! Last time I did it in rtd i got 5:30, which is fast for Highland.
*research pickaxe
*remove the 2 dwarves from cows and send to wood (11)
So you have:
food = 1 vil cows, +ships on cycle at both docks
wood = 11 (4 vils and 7 dwarves) + ox
gold = 6 + ox + pickaxe
*Modifications for economy: obviously, your opponent will try and claim fish. This is why you cycle ships on both. Hopefully, he'll back off making a second dock when he sees you've claimed the other water source; however, against a 1670+, he will dock it anyway to fight you for it. Therefore, if you dont have a lot of ships, keep those 2 dwarvs on cows and research husbandry.
*Economy after advance: cycle vils to wood (or vil/dwarf, depending on your food income) until you reach 15, then cycle dwarves to gold till you get 20. After that, get 10 farms up. In order to win vs an eggy on this map, you MUST WIN SEA. NO EXCEPTIONS! The eggy will still give you trouble because he'll fast farm, but that's not has bad as him controlling the middle of the map with ships/migdol/lame.
Military:
This is key to winning. Asap, cycle hersirs and get 3 brax up. Get at least 2 brax going with raiding calv and the other with TA/ulf (go low on TA if you need wood for longboats). This will drain you of resources, but you need to control water since that is what your economy is based on. Pressure the docks with your units as soon as you have 3 hersir (leave 1 ulf behind for houses). If he makes ships, you make them too. Take out the ship fire so you can remove the dock. The beauty of this strat is that norse can make forward bases, so you can get your army there faster than your opponent can. when you win sea, go with a nice forward base and lame some hillforts/towers and raid everything. then get rag + fw + ballistas = gg no re
*If this fails: Don't fight a lost battle. If he's got both your docks down and has 15 units of toxities/axemen/minatoars/loki hersir, and you only have 6 units, get outa there. Collect what you can from your ships and reassign some wood vils for game animals and leftover cows. Research Hunting Dogs or fast-farm + Plow. Get towers up and cycle TA/Hersir, and also get pierce ups. Rebuild houses you lost around towers (it wouldnt hurt to wall them either). Also make sure your gold is well hidden, cuz that's what he'll go for next (Highland is one of the easiest maps to raid in AoM/tt).
Lastly, I didnt know where to put this bit of info earlier, but at game start *explore as soon as you have your docks/houses built. Have one ulf explore enemy base to steal cows, and have the other explore your side. Take advantage of having 2 builders. However, you will need to make a 4th house before advancing so keep an eye on your pop max.
Like I said this will work vs a 1700 if done properly. Gl Hf. Your welcome
